Abstract

Cover Page

Improving Customer Retention in a Small Local Business Through Digital Marketing Strategies

Student’s Name

Institutional Affiliation

Course Name and Number

Instructor’s Name

Assignment Due Date

Customer Retention Challenges in a Small Local Café

The specific organisation to which this proposal is relevant is [Local Café], described as a small commercial café operated by a local family in the downtown area of the community. I have worked there for two years as a customer relations assistant, which involved dealing with customer feedback, maintaining and supporting loyalty programmes, and interacting through social media. This position involves direct participation in the customer environment and demonstrates the difficulties experienced in retaining customers, notwithstanding the fact that the company successfully delivers high-quality products and services.

Low Customer Loyalty and Inconsistent Customer Traffic

The main problem that has emerged is that customer retention rates in the organisation are low. Customers have expressed appreciation through their comments about the products served at the café and the services offered, but customer loyalty has not been fully established. For example, foot traffic continues to fluctuate considerably. It may increase during certain promotions, but the increase is not sustained afterwards. There is also a significant opportunity for improvement because the existing loyalty programme receives engagement from only approximately 25% of registered customers.

Business and Community Consequences of Low Retention

There are two types of losses among the groups most affected by this problem: business losses and societal losses affecting café owners, employees, regular customers, and the wider public. For the owners and staff, low customer retention creates revenue instability that can restrict business expansion or even cause job losses. Loyal customers are unable to obtain the optimal value from loyalty programmes when new products and services are introduced to the market. In addition, the café has particular importance because of its contribution to the economy and culture of the neighbourhood.

Decision-Making Priorities of the Business Owner

The intended reader of this proposal is [Business Owner], the owner of [Local Café]. The business owner is solely responsible for the decision-making process. Therefore, the owner would like the business to be customer-oriented, profitable, and closely connected to the community. Ensuring that customers feel valued and maintaining a friendly relationship with the community are particularly important. The business owner is conscious of costs and performance expectations associated with any new investment and therefore requires measurable impacts and evidence of return on investment. Despite acknowledging customer retention as a key strategy, the owner remains somewhat sceptical about the returns from investments in digital marketing strategies.

Digital Marketing Strategies for Strengthening Customer Loyalty

I suggest using specific advertising campaigns focused on increasing customer loyalty. These tactics include sending targeted emails to customers offering second-purchase promotions, increasing social media interaction by providing users with entry forms or branded contests, and creating an application that allows customers to track their rewards and receive offers relevant to their individual preferences. Scholarly evidence supports these strategies. For instance, Kumar (2021) indicated that organising email marketing based on a customer database increases customer retention levels by 30%. According to Nyamboli (2021), 85% of small businesses enhanced repeat customer visits through improved social media visibility.

Implementation Costs, Staff Training, and Performance Measurement

The following aspects are important for successful implementation. The costs of these efforts must be considered, including possible expenses associated with digital marketing tools and platforms. I recognise that basic staff training will be required to ensure that these tools are handled properly. Measurable goals are also required to determine the number of repeat visitors, email open rates, and levels of social sharing or liking. Sharing this information will help keep the proposed solutions transparent and executable so that everyone understands them.

References

Kumar, A. (2021).
