Global Human Trafficking: Prevalence, Challenges, and Policy Implications
Abstract
<div> <h2>Conceptualization of Human Trafficking as a Contemporary Form of Modern Slavery</h2> <p><strong>Problem description</strong> According to Barrick & Pfeffer (2021), the term human trafficking is used as a better way to describe slavery in modern times. It is a worldwide issue which affects many people of all genders and ages. In most cases, the most vulnerable group in human trafficking is women and children. Based on the United Nations statistics, at least 100,000,000 people are trafficked every year and more than 25,000 are trafficked into the United States.</p> <h2>Empirical Insights and Limitations in Understanding Human Trafficking Dynamics</h2> <p><strong>Summary of findings</strong> According to the Trafficking in Persons Report 2009, there are currently 12 million stateless people in the globe. These people cannot legally register a birth, attend school, get medical treatment, obtain a job, or travel. Human trafficking knowledge, like that of other crimes, is fragmented and often reliant on anecdotal evidence (Salami et al., 2021). The international scope of dealing, as well as the socioeconomic and socio-cultural diversity in the manifestations of the crime of trafficking, further muddles the understanding. Human trafficking is one of the most elusive forms of organized crime. Human trafficking victims are more likely to be hidden or unreachable than homicide and burglary victims (Schroeder et al., 2022). Before conducting the research, my thoughts were that most of the people who are victims of human trafficking end up dead and tortured, but from the research, I have learnt that most of these people are taken to work in foreign countries. The main reason for trafficking is for them to work as slaves, which means for free.</p> <h2>Policy-Oriented Conclusions and the Need for Coordinated Government Response</h2> <p><strong>Conclusion</strong> All of the facts and data show that this multinational issue needs immediate attention. The problem of human trafficking is one that demands a government-wide response since it is so pervasive and yet so little is being done about it. It is important to learn about and acknowledge the criminality of commercial sexual exploitation of children and the sex trafficking of children. Human trafficking prevention necessitates a concerted government-wide effort, including departments and organizations with diverse mandates.</p> </div>
