Topic 1 focused on food insecurity in poor families around my local community. This topic addressed the inaccessibility of affordable and healthy food and its impact on health status and educational success. Topic 2 examined mental health inadequacy among college students, including barriers such as long waiting times, stigma, and limited accessibility to counselling services.

The food insecurity problem received 13 points and falls under the Strong Foundation category. The mental health resources problem was rated at 10 points, placing it in the Needs Development category. This outcome was determined through the Community Problem Topic Assessment, where each topic was evaluated based on defined criteria.

My selected topic for the Writing to Communicate Change course is food insecurity among low-income families. This topic received a higher score and aligns more effectively with the project scope. The evaluation demonstrated that food insecurity is a well-researched issue with identifiable stakeholders and actionable solutions that can be implemented within the community.

This topic meets general project requirements as it represents a real-world, local issue affecting a defined population. It is supported by existing evidence and is interconnected with broader systems such as public policy, education, and healthcare. Similar to the examples presented in Module 2, the issue can be addressed through advocacy and collaboration with food banks, schools, and local government institutions to promote sustainable change.
